It’s the kind of self-satirical organisation that would employ people like ATTP and Raff, who don’t know why they waste their time on sites such as this and tell us that their vast intelligence is wasted on us, but who go on to mansplein to us anyway. It also seems to be obsessed with the Koch brothers. That is the single true sign of the climate enforcer. You cannot be a climate enforcer if you don’t mention “oil-funded deniers” in every post or comment. As usual, I am still awaiting my cheque.

  12. DailyKOS is my preferred example of an echo chamber filled with sycophants. Contrary opinions regardless of truth simply are not permitted and the banhammer is swift. It is designed, as are most leftwing sites (IMO) for the purpose of keeping sheep in the fold. Orwellian “Ministry of Truth” stuff.

    I’ll admit to occasionally (about once a year) dipping my toes in it trying to figure out why anyone would bother but it obviously attracts at least a few followers. Huffington Post is similar in flavor but slightly more diversified.

  15. Unlike many other visitors here, I am a very, very left-leaning-liberal–and I can’t read Daily Kos. It’s really that bad. It was that bad before they started ignoring Cliscep and it will be that bad long after they quit ignoring it.

    I hope you never feel unwelcome here on account of your voting habits. I’d hate to see this blog go the way of so many of our skeptical stablemates, where it’s apparently salonfähig to toss out dumb partisan generalizations like “that’s what liberalism means: being allergic to the truth” or “liberals won’t be happy, truly happy, until we all starve to death—except them, of course” or “climate science is a cult of lies, like the left” or “being a leftist means never having to say sorry for raping disabled nuns with their own crucifixes.”

    If you ever notice things are starting down that slippery slope, please let me know and I promise I’ll use my Nature trick to stop the decline.

  17. I find that skeptics are often conservatives. I also find that they have been far more hospitable to this Lukewarmer than those from either the activist or liberal side of the fence.

    Something about priests and heretics usually goes here…

  18. I don’t know about others here but I don’t care what people believe so long as they’re not intent on inflicting it on others. I find admirable things in left wingers, religious types and even warmists but their is something about the social aspect of those things that drives some people to make them compulsory. Possibly because those ideals only work if everyone follows them? But sadly there are too many cheaters. people who say one thing but do another. So if we’re going to please ourselves, I’d rather it was the agreed plan, not something that is done behind our backs.

    Likewise, when I Like a comment, I try not to Like it because I “agree” with it necessarily (though I certainly do in your case), but because it’s honest, revealing and cogent. I’ve even been known to Like some of Raff Baker’s comments. It’s my way of positively reinforcing him for dropping all the Climateball bullshit and RSVPing that ancient invitation:

    Come, let us reason together.

    I wonder, though: do climate activists even believe you when you say you’re a liberal? I have a hard enough time convincing them I’m not a far-right Glenn Beck devotee.

    They seem to vastly prefer the assumption that there’s something wrong with us, ideologically, to the possibility that there’s something wrong with Teh Science, teh scientifically.

    Hey, it’s fifty five years since I did that. How did you know? I’d look out the window when I knew the answer so the teacher would ask me. Then when I gave the right answer the teacher would throw the chalk duster at me. Latin lesson. He became a priest. Hope he’s a cardinal now. Deserves it.

  25. When I looked yesterday; these two articles (one eleven months old, the other four months old) had one and two comments. Today they’ve added this at both articles: “COMMENTS ARE CLOSED ON THIS STORY.”

    They don’t want us to comment on their article about us. But we’d love them to come and comment on our article about their articles about us.

    Here’s my message to the Kos:

    24 hours ago I came across Your two articles about us. Since then you’ve closed comments on those two articles. Tell us where we’re we’re wrong; about Lewandowsky, about Oreskes, about temperatures; about CO2 sensitivity; about stinking rich British millionaires ripping off poor Africans in the name of sustainability; about the Royal Society paying some charlatan a five figure sum to continue to defame me and others by publishing articles accusing us of paranoia and irrational thinking.

    Dear Daily Kos, you are (perhaps) the unwitting outlet, the fundament, the arsehole, of a system that can only survive by eliminating all opposition, ever, anywhere. As long as there exists a reasonable, audible opposition to your nasty little ideology, you are a joke. If ever you succeed in eliminating opposition (as it has already been eliminated at the Los Angeles Times, the Guardian and the Conversation) then you cease to be a joke, the simple arsehole of internet journalism, and you become the authentic voice of ecofascism.

    Personally, as a leftwing supporter freedom of expression, of respect for the principles of science, of the right to oppose current doctrines and the governing consensus, I expect you to respect our right of reply. But only you can choose.
