1. Gosh. I see average July temperatures have dropped 1.5°C in two years. Not only are we on target to keep temperature rises down to 1.5°C this century, but we’ve actually reversed a century’s projected temperature rise in a mere two years, before we’ve even started taking action. Isn’t this proof that doing nothing is the best policy?

   I know this kind of irony is silly, and serves no purpose. In this it’s precisely similar to the propaganda we were fed during 2016 Paris el Nino. The difference is, they (the world’s media) meant it.

2. The Met Office are not even going to be able to celebrate a ‘hottest summer ever’ in the UK. Currently (to the 28th) the mean daily CET for Jun, Jul, Aug is 17.47C, making it only the 3rd warmest summer behind 1976 and 1826. With 3 cool days to go, it might slip further down the rankings. Such a shame; it was looking so promising at the end of July.

3. A little August snow in the Alps sure put the kibosh on that warmunist alarm.
   Unless summer snow is also caused by global warming…..

4. Jamie is right to look at the CET.
   Gleaned from the mean monthly data
   – For JJA to be tie with the 1976 record, August average temperatures would have to be 18.1C, compared to 19.1C in July.
   – For Jan-July, 2018 ranks 20th. This is due to a cool start to the year, with the average of Feb, Mar & April ranked 160th out of the 360 years since 1659.
   – Although July was pretty hot it at 19.1C, it was ranked 3rd behind 2006 (19.7) & 1983 (19.5). 1783 is ranked fourth (18.8). 1976 and 1852 are joint fifth on 18.7.
   – Assuming the August average temperature is 17.4C, the average for June, July, August since 1940 will look like this

   
   We have had a warm summer relative to the milder summers of 2007 to 2017.
   Note that 1976 and 2006 were also drier. Remember the hosepipe bans?
   Of note is that whilst 1976 was the warmest JJA, it was ranked 39th warmest year.
   The warmest year was 2014, but JJA was ranked 85.

7. In Spain we only had one heat wave, the first two weeks of August. We usually get 3-4 starting in June. The highest my thermometer has registered is 35 degrees C, this year the highest was 31 C.

   By the way, i have an infrarred thermometer, and free time, so I’ve been jotting down the way the temperature runs in different parts of the apartment (i dont run the AC). What I found is that for inside temperature during warm days the clouds are really important, because the outside walls warm up, and this gets transferred to the inside. Theres a lot of thermal inertia, even though im by the beach and i get the ocean breeze go right through the apartment (we have windows on both the sea side and the land side which are facing mountains about 30 km away).

   My conclusion is that heat waves get uncomfortable due to both air temperature in the shade, the clouds, air circulation, the number of daylight hours, humidity, the building’s color, and the light reflected from nearby buildings at all wavelengths.

   This gott me to thinking, maybe i need to put a retractable aluminum gizmo which runs on top of a black roof, let the aluminum reflect incoming light during the day, and at night retract it and let the black roof radiate heat?
